GORMUS THE HIGH Gormus is the highest ranking member of the Children of the Risen and Rerisen. He has been overseeing the direction of the religious group for almost half a century, having inherited the position from his mentor, the previous High Priest. Nobody knows more secrets about the Children and the Book of Twilight than Gormus, and those below him see him as the final word in all things. When word reached Gormus about the coming of the Lords of the Dead, he locked himself away in the Great Library and did not emerge for a month (food was brought to him by his assistant), as he pored over numerous tomes about the end of the world. It was the Book of Twilight that held the most in-depth information, though written in a dead tongue that Gormus only roughly understood. The book spoke of one who would return from death to defeat the Lords. Immediately Gormus sent his agents around the continent, looking for the man that the book described. Soon, he received word of a man named Lazarus, who is rumored to have returned from death numerous times, and that he did indeed have silver bones and a silver skull, about which the book spoke of repeatedly. All his life, he knew he would be the one to bring back the savior. Looking about the Eastern Watchtower at all the statues, paintings, murals, tapestries, and figurines depicting the final days, he felt a stirring in his heart, and was so moved by the idea of a returning hero that he could thing of nothing else. He researched, read, and knew the religious stories better than his teachers. He was brought to the attention of his future mentor, who recognized the sharpness of Gormus' mind and impressionable spirit, and taught him secrets only open to the highest levels of Children society. Gormus organized the ritual that brought Lazarus back from beyond. He also raised Sophania to be the one to bear the Child of Lazarus, (who, supposedly, is the true savior) and was instrumental in ensuring that the two get together. Now that all of this has fallen into place, he is aware that these are the final days of which countless books speak, and knows that he plays a pivotal role in how things unfold. The sheer pressure that he finds he must bare is enough to crush a weaker man, but for the survival of life, he is prepared to take all that pressure and more.
